2017
The beginning
From UND to the staffing software industry
After graduating from the University of North Dakota with a degree in Information Systems, Steve entered the staffing software industry in a support role — and quickly realized that the most valuable work was happening in the data layer. That realization shaped everything that followed.
2017–22
Growing through the industry
From support to data migration to implementation lead
Over five years Steve progressed steadily — from support through hands-on data migration work, and ultimately to managing an implementation team. In that time he worked with nearly 100 clients on onboarding, migrations, and custom reporting, developing a ground-level understanding of how businesses actually use — and struggle with — their data.
2022
Going independent
Technical consulting at the highest level
In 2022 Steve transitioned into technical consulting for one of the largest staffing software firms' strategic partners — deepening his expertise in FTP/API integrations, data migration, and fully customized automation at a scale few consultants ever encounter.

Founded to do things differently
Pillar was founded on a simple belief: businesses deserve direct access to the specialist doing the work — not a firm with layers of account managers. Every engagement at Pillar is handled personally by Steve, from the first call to the final delivery.

Marble WOTC
Proof that Pillar builds, not just consults
In 2026 Steve launched Marble WOTC — a SaaS platform helping staffing agencies capture the Work Opportunity Tax Credit automatically. Built entirely by Pillar, it's live proof that the skills brought to every client engagement are the same ones that ship real, working products.
